A Simple Question:

After watching the White House led Healthcare Summit a couple of weeks ago, I came to the conclusion that the general consensus was that healthcare should be equally available to all Americans. And further that the quality of healthcare in both prevention and treatment should not be based solely on someone’s personal financial position.

Also, and for the most part, disagreement was generally about whether it would be run “privately", “publically” or by some kind of “hybrid” system.

With that premise in mind and all outcomes designed to be equal…

What is the purpose and/or the advantage of having a “middle-man” insurance component?

Personally, I can only conclude they are needed in order to fill the coffers of the corporate ruling elite.
